Sports Review
Cliffe Tribe
Earlier on this year, Cliffe invited author Alan Hill onto the show - not only talk about his love of rugby league, but to tell us the story behind his book ‘A Boy Called Arsenal’ - an honest and emotional true story about a man who, after a life-long battle with mental and physical problems, finally became diagnosed with autism at the age of forty-nine in 2011. The catalyst for his diagnosis was his daughter’s attempted suicide, which drove this troubled man to finally get the help he needed.
That man’s name is Arsenal Wittick – A Liverpool lad who, as a young boy, became obsessed not with the Red or the Blue of Mersyside but with a team over 200 miles away in north London - Arsenal Football Club- so strong was this obsession that at the age of twenty three, he changed his name by deedpoll.
It really was a fascinating story that Alan shared right here on Hope FM, that Clife decided to get in back on for a special program – and this time, Allan bought the man himself to tell his story in his own words.
This conversation was recorded earlier this month – and you’re about to hear it now.
Its, honest, raw, and at times may be upsetting for some listeners, as it touches upon themes of suicide and self harm.
So, If you are effected by anything you hear in today’s show, and you need someone to talk to, you can ring Samaritans 24 hours a day on 116 123, or Text SHOUT 85258.
As always with The Sports review – Cliife asks his guests to pick the songs! And Arsenal has picked some great songs.
So listen in to the Hope FM Sport Review Special with A Boy Called Arsenal...
